Assignment 3 : Musical typography

For assignment 3 that is the musical typography project. We , Perfect Pixels chose a song entitled “If today was your last day” by nickelback. We chose this song because this song teaches us how to live your life and to appreciate every moment that we had. Basically , the theme of this song is about life and it is very encourageable and suitable song for young adults like the pre-university students.

The musical typography was done by using the Adobe Flash,Adobe After Effects,Adobe Premier,and Adobe photoshop.

In starting , we used the Adobe After effects software.

The first step is as below ;

First, we typed all the lyrics first by using the text tool as shown in the image above.We used Savings Bond font to type the lyrics of the song.

Then we compose the text by using different angles so that it would make the typography interesting.We used the selection tool,click the text layer,and choose the word that we wanted to rotate by using the transform tool and choose the angle that we wanted. The steps are shown like below ;

Now for the text color scheme,

We click the character tab and used fill color (which we used yellow). The result is a shown below. We used the same step for the red color to the other coloured text.

Done with the text, the next step is the camera angle.

First, click the layer tab > New > and choose camera.

Then click the video-shape icon and we choose the settings that we wanted to adjust the camera angle. The step is shown as below;

Now, to add the texture as the background of our musical typography video , we impoterd the image from Adobe photoshop.

We take an image from google >credits to the owner of the image. And we alter it using Adobe photoshop.We used the adjustment tool and we darken the image a little bit by increasing the vibrance effect.

And now for the credits, we used Adobe flash.

The setting that we used for the flash is shown as below ;

First, as usual, we used the text tool and type the names of all our group member.

For the image that shown In adobe flash, we import it to the stage from adobe photoshop. Then we convert it to symbol (CTRL+F8) so that we can adjust the movement of the image and the text.

And for the final touch,

We convert the swf file that we produced in Adobe flash to AVI so that we can combine with the files that we do in Adobe after effects to make a complete video of musical typography.

Taurus and Gemini

I was in charge of May and June month which are Taurus and Gemini. This is how i made the calendar:

First off, i used a background picture that i took from the internet and changed the opacity to 21%

Next, i add in another layer a picture of a comfortable house and used layer mask and gradient tool to make the picture fade at one side.

Then, i add in the Taurus symbol to symbolize the calendar as Taurus.

Next, i create a box using the rectangle tool and changed the opacity to 56%. I also used the type tool to type out the days and the dates of the month and changed the colour to purple.

After that, using the quick selection tool, i simply select the picture of a woman, select inverse and delete the background and drag to the calendar .

Finally, i added the name of the zodiac, personality of the zodiac and the name of the month using type tool to complete the calendar.

Here is the final product!

For the June calendar i basically did the same only i made the picture on the left and the dates on the right.

Leo and Cancer

 Hi, for the calendar group assignment, i was in charge of July and August month. Which is the Cancer and Leo zodiac. so, let's begin with the steps on how i made my zodiac calendar. Now let I show you how i made the Leo zodiac calendar.

1st . First, i unlock the first layer and use brush tool to color the background grey.

2. Then, i take a wallpaper with classic design from the internet to set as the background.Then i reduce the opacity so that the wallpaper did not stand out too much than the main picture which i will post later.

 3.Then i used an image ( a guy model) to portray the Leo personality.I used the wand selection tool to crop the image from its own original wallpaper.Then via layer copy, i place the image on the right side corner of the calendar, and i deleted the (guy model) original to obtain the image that i selected.

4.The next step is, i used the brush tool again to smoothen the guy image so it will not look messy.

 

  5. Then,i used the rectangle tool to make the date frame,i choose the white color and i reduce the opacity.

 6.Next, i used text tool to type the date,days and month, then i put all the text effects so that the text will stand out.( drop shadow,inner shadow,bevel and emboss etc....)

7.The i search in the internet again for the leo symbol and i used the same step (wand tool + layer via copy) to extract the symbol and thus i paste it on the top left corner of the calendar.I put the symbol some effects too (strokes-bluish color)

 8.Then,to strengthen the image (how we portray the zodiac personality) and so that the viewers understand the zodiac leo more, i put the leo man descriptions on the top of the date.

 and Tada !! The image below is the final product of my leo calendar. (^~^)

 

Well, for the cancer calendar. I used the same steps.Just changed the image and the fonts. Other is still the same. (^~^)

For the cancer calendar, here is the final product.

 

Aquarius ( February )

Just like in the previous calendar, I started with applying gradient.

 

Then, I take a texture, and change the layer to clipping layer and decrease the opacity a bit

 Then, I put the zodiac with the descriptions and put some "Drop Shadow" and "Outer Glow"

 Then, same as Capricorn, I put the box and put "Outer Glow"

 After putting all the details of the calendar, I put some effects like "Drop Shadow" and "Outer Glow" for the month, while the dates are "Drop Shadow" and "Stroke"

Put the same crescent as in Capricorn and change the 

effects like "Outer Glow" and "Stroke"

Put the girl into the calendar

Put some smoke brushes and change the brushes with some "Gradient Overlay" and "Outer Glow" for the magical rainbow effect

Then, I put this logo .....

........... inside, altered the layer to "Overlay" and put some "Outer Glow" in it. 

And it is done :)

Capricorn ( January )

Here is the steps in making my calendar

 First, I made gradient for the background.

 Then, I use a texture and change the layer to "overlay".

Then, I wrote the name of the zodiac with the descriptions.

 Then, I put "Drop Shadow"

 Then, I use a square brush to make a square box.

 Then, I put "Outer Glow"

 Then, I write the calendar's inside. Like the month and the dates.

 Then, made the properties towards the 

January
"Drop Shadow"
Distance = 8
Spread = 14
Size = 9


"Inner Glow"
Choke = 20
Size = 8
Technique = Softer
Source = Edge

And I put the logo in

 Then, I put the crescent and alter the properties

 Then, I put a guy to make this calender complete

 Put some brushes in the background

 Then, I put a texture on top of everything excluding the guy. Change the property of the texture.

And, we're done!
